Rebuild your wings

From the realm of a lovely family and blessing of parents, —have you ever lost everything in one stroke of life? It feels like someone has cut your wings, leaving you unable to fly again. What do you do then?

Losing the anchors you once had feels like being thrust into an abyss, unable to muster the strength to even move. And the notion of soaring again seems a distant dream.

Love, when lost becomes grief. In a way so true, ‘Grief is the price we pay for love’. It takes away every ounce of your blood, energy, leaving you feeling empty, alone and lifeless. The acute pain curls you inside and isolates you. Grief changes forms and shapes, ranging from intense to grave; short to prolonged. It fluctuates through stages of denial to rage; pain to anger; hallucination to destruction; burying to acceptance. Overwhelming emotions leaves you gasping for breath, brutally injured, and struggling to find your footing.

You lose your sense of normalcy and become consumed by it day after day; weeks turn into months, months into year, until it paralyzes you. Dark clouds gather, and you refuse to open the window to let the sunshine in. The world outside seems distant and unreachable.

In these moments, it’s hard to see how things could ever come together again. Once you were flying and now struggling to crawl. Yet, despite the darkness, we find a way to sleep each night and wake up next day. This is the innate sense of optimism we are born with, a faint but persistent flicker of hope that guides us through the storm and many unknown adversities of life.

As time passes, you might begin to notice small signs of recovery. A kind word from a friend, random message from your sister, accidental coffee, a childhood memory, a song bringing an old memory, a photograph, warm hug, or a brief glimpse of joy. These tiny sparks eventually ignite a renewed sense of purpose and resilience. Slowly, you find the strength to open the window, allowing a sliver of light to penetrate the darkness.

Rebuilding your life after such a profound loss requires patience, self-compassion, self-love, belief, persistence, courage, and the support of loved ones. Embrace the journey, knowing that it is okay to grieve, and that healing is a process of its own.

Like love ebbs and flows, grief too takes you up and down on the rollercoaster of life. Holding on to the belief and rebuilding your wings, is an essential part of human existence!

Allow yourself to feel the full spectrum of emotions, give time, and recognize that grief is like the sunset and for sure the sun will rise. In this face of overwhelming grief, there lies the potential for growth and transformation. Embrace it as “Grief doesn’t leave you; it becomes a forever part of you.

You are going to look back on life and realize that things were coming together in ways you couldn’t see at the time. By nurturing your inner strength and allowing hope to guide, you and I can begin to rebuild our wings and rediscover the ability to soar once more.
