The trauma of opinions

The world prevails on opinions. When it comes to the corporate world, it triumphs over the bones of opinionated people. Most have a judgement about you while they lack self-awareness.

Not a day goes without their views draining you. Not a minute on the watch when you are not watched. Bonanza if you are a woman, as the hawks are ready to bite any second.

What is missing is the context they don’t have or don’t want to have. A loose comment or gossip makes a great spicy conversation. But why not enjoy that chai with someone to understand their story? Well later is less fun and demands support. Who wants to trade this fun with care.

The target becomes victim. The giver takes the game. Anxiety sets in. Slowly dragging your feet to a dark place called rock-bottom. How did it happen? From top performer to bottom! Welcome to the unknown ‘Yo-Yo Effect’. Symptoms are many and the crucial one is fear of what they say. It is marked by withdrawal. You stop smiling, mingling, eating, playing, or maybe enjoying life.

Offices are flooded with Yo-Yo people gasping for breath. A common sight which many are blinded by. Have you ever looked around and comfort someone seeking through his/her wet eyelash? Held a hand of a drowning friend? Enter the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) to give them a shot of life?

Moments of doubt and despair cloud the mind. But don’t give up as you need to re-connect with life. Forget and forgive this workplace trauma.

Look inside your heart. The truth no one can take away is yours. Hold your mirror tight as light will shine through it. You are made to stand so why bend.

Seal your circle and invite those who embrace your shine. Lockout those opinions from your sight. Your sanity is priceless as you chase life. Strengthen your inner mind and only believe in time. This too shall pass.

The world won’t change or judge you less, so at least you respect yourself.
